In Estonia, many biologists (including me) are using the Alan Morton's
program DMAPW (earlier, for DOS - DMAP) and are quite happy: one may
prepare distribution maps suitable for printing (or including into
mscr. written in WORD, or including into text when using publishing
programs); the distribution data (dots) may be kept in a database,
new data may be added easily and new maps prepared any time you want.
Just now I am compiling the 3rd fascicle of distribution maps of
Estonian fungi (polypores; 199 species), 2 fascicles are published.
Input is or as latitude and longitude coordinates, or as acronyms
of the 10 x 10 km, 1 x 1 km etc. UTM grids (e.g., for a dot on a map
representing a 10 x 10 km square in the western part of Saaremaa
Is. it is 34VEK7565).
