I thought the only important parameter was how quickly and how well we find out
the truth? Isn't all that matters how good a reconstruction of actual history
we can get? With that in mind, we all know the strengths and weaknesses of
cladistics, the reality of both dispersal and vicariance, and most important,
the need to strive for an approach that is more realistic in the exciting area
of shallow time, where the real action is, and without the clarifying effects
of cumulative extinctions. It certainly doesn't help the cause to guess about
or advocate for the relative contribution of different processes, instead of
seeking to know how things actually happen.
