Dear "Taxacomers"
finishing an account of the genus Achillea for the flora of the Czech
Republic, I need to tackle some nomenclatural difficulties. Could I ask for
help anyone who has a good library with many old valuable books at his
disposal?
The problem concerns the name Achillea rosea Desfontaines, a synonym of
Achillea asplenifolia Ventenat (1803). In facts, this name has never been
validly published by Desfontaines himself, even though used it in all three
editions of his Tableau de l?Ecole de Botanique from 1804 to 1829. But I was
told that the name might have been validly published by
Poiret in Encycl. (Lamarck) Suppl. 1:101, 1810.
Please, could anyone who has a copy of this book in his library check
whether this information is correct? I suppose that there might bee some
problems, such as giving Achillea asplenifolia in the "synonymy". My
questions would thus be: (1) Is there any diagnosis or something like this
at the place cited above? (2) Are there any names given as "synonyms".
Thank you.
J. D.
