antbase.org is offering now for the first time an online service to the
ants of the world. The system is based on the complete, continuously
updated ant systematics (>11,000 species, >20,000 names).

Special services are:
* Access to full text publications, which can either be accessed through an
authors query, or which are directly linked to from the citations within
Name Server output. Currently, more than 500 full text publications are
online, aiming at making the entire primary ant systematics literature
accessible.
* Automatically generated links to other relevant WWW sites, offering "one-
click-shopping"
* GIS facility and specimen databases
* >2,000 images of ants
* Leaf litter sample bank. A repository of raw data matrices from field
collections of ground living ants. Similar to GENBANK, the data can be
submitted, and retrieved, plus all the data can be displayed on maps and
the taxa are automatically hyperlinked.

antbase.org is part of the Social Insects World Wide Web (SIWeb) aiming at
providing access to social insects world wide. It is based at the American
Museum of Natural History. Content is developed in collaboration with Norm
Johnson at Ohio State University, Columbus Ohio, and Hirotami T. Imai, Ant
Image Database (Japan).
SIWeb is part of the information management of the International Union for
the Study of Social Insects, the Social Insects Specialists Group of the
World Conservation Union, and the Name Server as part of the Hymenoptera
Name Server (including >110,000 names) is endorsed by the International
Society of Hymenopterists, and data provider for the Integrated Taxonomic
Information System *ITIS*.
