homonymy (ICZN)

Colleagues,

I don't believe that names belonging to different rank-groups enter into homonymy. In the specific example provided the stem of the Family-group name is different from that of the genus-group name (e.g., the subtribe name based on genus Cicindelina would be Cicindelinina ....). However, I'm not aware of any article or ruling that explicitly refers to this kind of case.

I similar problem appear to result from the combination between the principle of homonymy and that of coordination for names within the species group, e.g.:

- Lecane closterocerca amazonica Koste, 1978
- Lecane aspasia amazonica Koste & Robertson, 1983

As far as I understand the ICZN, the two subspecies names -amazonica are homonyms, and the junior should be replaced. I do have the impression that there are numerous examples of this case in zoology, disregarded by most authors.

Regards,
Hendrik.
