The New York Botanical Garden buildings and staff have made it
through yesterday's tragedy with no direct damage, but because
our communications are linked to a service that ran underneath
the WTC, we have lost our T-1 internet connection and our
long-distance phone service. We are trying to get both
re-established, but have no idea when these services will be
restored. Even once restored, we have been warned that service
will be intermittent.
Anyone wanting to reach me, or any other NYBG staff can send a
message to this email address . The herbarium is open for
business, although check local transportation reports before
planning a trip here. Loans and other shipments will go out on
schedule, assuming that the post office picks them up from us,
and that they can get shipments on airplanes. We will certain
continue to pull loans and prepare them for shipment.
Please forward to anyone you think might be interested, and
thanks to those of you who sent messages of concern that reached
us before we lost
contact.
Barbara M. Thiers
Director of the Herbarium and
Acting Vice President for Science
