Dumb question, but...are the thorns of Euphorbs in Africa (convergent to New Wld Cacti) largely a function to deter grazing since the "milk" is so toxic, or could it also be a thermo-regulation issue too? Or...involved in PS and respiration concomitantly? Allan Shanfield PhD Candidate UC Davis
