Teaching Evolution

It doesn't take long for a bad idea to spread rapidly. The front page
headline on this morning's South Bend Indiana) Tribune has a story
indicating thatseveral state legislators are beginning on work to follow
Kansas' lead and several local high school teachers have come out as
closet creationists or as biologists who present evolution as one af
several alternatives and let the students choose their favorite. In
several cases teachers mentioned that they warned students that, although
they would not be covering evolution in their course, it would be "crammed
down your throats" in college. This in a state where an attempt to
legislate the value of pi as 3.00 almost made it through - should we be
surprised?

I suspect there are thousands out there who have been heartened by the
"boldness" of the Kansas legislature and are chomping at the bit to get
similar legislation in their states.
