Revised listing of conserved family names in the ICBN

After all of the nomenclatural proposal were considered at the nomenclature
session held in conjunction with the XVI International Botanical Garden,
and the provisions relating to "names in current use" (proposed new Art.
15) were defeated, a proposal from the floor deleted Art. 14, footnote 2.
As a result, I have prepared a tentatively revised list of conserved
vascular plant family names for App. II of the International Code of
Botanical Nomenclature. The entries are subject to further editing and
corrections by the Editorial Committee.

Each name is listed with its first valid place of publication. Thus, the
names remain the same but the bibliographic information for numerous names
(some 190) must be corrected. Individuals aware of early places of valid
publication than those listed here are urged to contact me by 15 Oct 1999.

suprageneric names considered at the nomenclature session may be seen at
