Hello, the purpose of this message is to make reference once more to the
previous messages about Hennig, Rosa, and Croizat. This makes sense also in
face of the upcoming congress of the Hennig society.
While the contribution of Hennig to systematic theory may be circumscribed by
the key-words "synapomorphy" and "paraphyly" (in the sense that the perception
of synapomorphies leads to the rejection of many groups because they are
paraphyletic), I wonder what key-words one shall attribute to Rosa and Croizat.
I have no idea about Rosa (never read), but I do know that Croizat may enter
history via the idea that biota and earth evolve together, centers of origin
are substituted by wide spread ancestral distributions.
In contrast to Hennig, Croizat?s endevours dealt in first place with the
organism?s distributions and not with the organisms themselves.
As I mentioned, about Rosa I don?t know anything.
Cheers, Thomas
