When in doubt try Mabberley's " The Plant-book." I have always known the =
voodoo lily to be Sauromatum venosum [S. guttatum] in the Araceae. =
Mabberley says that it is sold as dry tubers that will produce an =
inflorescence without water. It is Bas Meeuse's favorite plant. He =
studied it for years. The appendix of the inflorescence heats up about =
the time the flowers open. The better to spread around the fetid odor of =
the plant, perhaps. It is mentioned in his book "The Sex Life of =
Flowers."
