The Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn NY, has an opening for an
herbarium assistant.  The position announcement follows.

                                HERBARIUM TECHNICIAN

_EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES_

        *Assist the Curator in the care of the Garden's collection of about
                300,000 herbarium specimens.
        *Prepare and file specimens.
        *Assist with handling specimens and record-keeping for loans, gifts,
                and exchanges.
        *Enter data into herbarium databases.
        *Supervise and coordinate volunteers.
        *Travel to meetings, workshops, and training seminars as necessary.

_Qualifications_

        *BS or AAS in scientific subject; or High School diploma and three
                years work in a related field.
        *Good organizational and communications skill essential.
        *Ability to lift and move heavy boxes essential.
        *Valid driver's license
        *Ability to use word processing, and database or spreadsheet
                software.
        *Knowledge of plants an asset.
