The history of trees in systematics (both in the 19th century and
in recent times) is a fascinating subject and one that has received
some attention, though perhaps not as much as it deserves. There is
a bibliography of recent work in the history of systematics available
on the FILES page of the Darwin-L Web Server <http://rjohara.uncg.edu>,
and it contains a number of citations to works on the history of
tree diagrams. People interested in the subject are invited to
browse it.
