MYSTERY PLANT-unillustrated

Friends:

    Our local Botanical Garden has left a question for me concerning
information on a plant they have from Chiapas. The way the plant name
appears on their note is:

    "Matedaea chinerva"

    I am very suspicious of this name: I expect their might be a
problem in its being rendered improperly onto paper. Could it be
something like "Matelea"? Maybe it's supposed to be "trinerva"???

    Anybody have an idea?  Thanks John Nelson
