DELTA WORKSHOP, 1993
DELTA (DEscription Language for TAxonomy) is gaining some
popularity among systematists. For those not familiar with DELTA,
it is a program developed principally by Dr. Mike J. Dallwitz at
CSIRO for computer generation of taxonomic descriptions and keys.
It is also a package (there are others in use) that can be used to
develop expert systems.
A workshop on the use of DELTA is being offered October 28-31
in Tallahassee Florida at Florida A & M University. Registration
is $50.00 to cover some costs at this end. Other costs such as
travel and accommodation are extra, naturally. This workshop will
target teaching the basics of how to use DELTA, develop a DELTA
format data base, trouble shooting and error interpretation, etc.,
essentially promoting its use also. I am in no way THE EXPERT -
that would be Mike who is due all credit. However, he can't be
everywhere and I am offering an opportunity to pass on what I know
about it.
Interested parties are encouraged to contact me a.s.a.p. about
this workshop, registration, etc. At present writing I have space
availability for another 7-8 participants.
