I have had the same difficulty getting past the login protocol as Bob O'Hara.
I tried adding the parameter 3000 to the end of the line as in Barbara
Murray's original note and in Jose-Henrique Pinto's suggestion to Bob O'Hara,
however my VAX processor will not accept the 3000.  It gives the error
message "too many parameters - reenter command with fewer parameters."
Entered without the 3000, I can connect but am then faced with a login that
will not accept an anonymous ID.
